Install and use

README.md

Set up your agent

With Node.js and npm installed, run:

npx rea-agents setup

Choose your agents, review the proposed changes, and approve them. Setup adds REA's MCP server and matching workflow instructions, with backups of existing configuration. Restart your agent afterward.

Setup supports Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Grok Build and other agents. See installation and setup for provider configuration and manual MCP registration.

Developing

CONTRIBUTING.md

Use the development toolchain pinned in .nvmrc and package.json#packageManager. Run nvm use before installing dependencies; installed-package runtime support is documented in installation.

npm ci
npm run check:fast

npm ci installs the exact dependencies and prepares the Husky hooks without building the project. Run npm run build:cached when you need the standalone CLI or MCP server; it compiles the runtime and bundles the authored skill. npm run build forces those tasks to rerun. Neither command generates test catalogs, documentation projections, or managed verification evidence. Turbo caches deterministic builds and static checks across Git worktrees. After a package, lockfile, or managed-skill version change, run npm run metadata:generate before building.

Repository invariants live in AGENTS.md. Keep provider-specific protocols in adapters and shared CLI/MCP workflows in the application layer.

Windows source checkouts

The published npm package includes the Windows x64 native addon and its manifest. A source checkout does not: native/windows/build/ is ignored by Git, and neither npm ci nor npm run build:cached (or npm run build) produces rea-windows-x64.node or manifest.json in that directory. Windows workflows and tests that require native controls need these artifacts; this includes run-exclusive commands, which use the native Job Object to keep the artifact lock until every command descendant has exited. Without the artifacts, those controls are unavailable even after a successful runtime build.
